As i began to grow up - Gulzar Ji

As i began to grow up, a thought came to me,
That i should do so no more...
The water that i drink is muddy,
The air too appears stale,
The shade that used to caress the road,
He has also been hacked, piece by piece,
And taken away by people long ago!
When i returned home I saw smoke on the TV screen,
Somewhere a train was burning,
Someone had burnt a bus,
Watching homes being burnt or demolished,
I came out of my home.

If for half a century,
Such things have been going on,
And your childhood has been exposed to it,
And so must mine,
Then, how necessary is it t grow up.
